About Dollar Card in Nepal: it's use

Complete Information about Dollar Card

If you don’t Know, let me tell you that Dollar Card has been in use in Nepal since March 21, 2021. The Nepal Rastra Bank had announced that Nepali Banks can now issue foreign-currency prepaid cards for international online transactions, which was not possible via cards issued by Nepali banks before.

Why is it Important for Nepali Students applying abroad?

The first reason is you can actually pay for SAT registration, CSS profile payment, application fee, enrollment fee and others. You don’t need to stand in the long queue at the bank paying extra money for tax. It is super easy to access and the same goes for making any payment (Look at the bottom).

How to make a Dollar Prepaid Card?

  • Choose the bank from which you want to get a card. (To decide, Inquire about the charges they will take to make and top up your Dollar Card).
  • Make sure to have a PAN number. (if you don’t have to worry, you can make it through the Nagrik app. You can easily receive your PAN number.)
  • Go to the bank and fill out the form so that they can make a Dollar account to link to your Nepali account.
  • Pay the charges as mentioned. Congratulations! After all is done, you will receive the Dollar Card in a few business days.

What are the limitations?

  • You cannot store more than USD 500 on the Card for one year i.e., the maximum value you can load is $500 per year.
  • It can only be used for online transactions.

  • There is no service to transfer back the dollar amount to NPR to your linked bank account.
(Good news is that you can ask to top up the amount you need, and re top up according to your need.)

How to use the Card?

It is pretty simple.

  • Choose VISA as your card type.
  • Fill in the Card number which is in front of the card. (1234 1234 1234 1234).

  • Now fill out the expiry date, which is also present on the face of the card just below the card number.

  • Finally, fill out the security number, which is at the backside of the card (mostly a 3 digit number- 123).

  • Click on pay. Congratulations again! you have successfully made your payment.

NOTE: You don’t need to have a card in your hand. You just need that details- card number, expiration date, and security number. So, make sure to keep it SAFE. DON’T SHARE IT.
